Durham: On Monday, police were patrolling when they spotted a young driver. This driver was about to join the A1 without a seatbelt on.

The police stopped the vehicle right next to the A1. They gave the driver a fixed penalty notice and some serious advice. Now, they’re sharing rules about seatbelt use to help keep everyone safe.

Police want to discourage people from skipping seatbelts. A spokesperson mentioned that checks were happening, and they caught this young female driver without her seatbelt.

Durham Constabulary said:

  • You can be fined up to £500 for not wearing a seatbelt.
  • Wearing a seatbelt protects you and others on the road.
  • Only one person can use each seatbelt. Don’t share it.
