Leeds: A burst water main has caused quite a stir in Farsley. Residents are not happy at all. Mark Dacre, a local, is especially upset. He’s worried someone might slip and hurt themselves on the icy steps.
The burst pipe happened on January 9, right when the weather turned cold. Water was gushing out, creating a slippery waterfall right outside Andrew House. It was a mess!
Mark said that Yorkshire Water showed up the next day but didn’t fix the problem right away. They left the water flowing for nearly 24 hours. He couldn’t believe it. He felt it was dangerous, especially with the freezing temperatures.
He mentioned that workers claimed their truck couldn’t get to the site. Mark was frustrated, saying it sounded like an excuse. He just wanted them to get the job done safely.
As the temperature dropped, Mark worried about people walking down those steps at night. He said it would look normal, but it was anything but safe. He was really concerned someone could get hurt.
Mark also criticized Leeds City Council for how they handle repairs. He felt they weren’t organized and that it showed in the way they managed the situation.
A spokesperson from the council assured that they prioritize resident safety. They said they worked with other agencies to fix the issue as quickly as possible.
Yorkshire Water finally completed the repair on January 10. They apologized for the delay, explaining that snow and ice made it tough to access the area. They promised to restore the site soon.
It’s a reminder of how important it is to keep our community safe, especially in winter!
