East Yorkshire: Year 9 students from local schools can join the STEAM Challenge. It’s happening on July 10 at Bishop Burton College. The focus is on building and engineering.

Students will design and build a mechanism to lift and position blocks into a pyramid. They’ll earn points for quality, design, sustainability, speed, and accuracy.

Each team must also create a short video showing their design process. They’ll need a marketing plan with a project name, logo, tagline, and a pitch explaining their innovation.

Mark Gibson, director of the Yorkshire & Humber Institute of Technology, expressed excitement about the event. He hopes many schools will participate and showcase their creativity.

The challenge will help students see how technical and creative skills solve real-world problems. It offers hands-on experience in prototyping and collaboration.

Local education institutions and employers will engage with students, sharing insights about studying and working in STEAM fields.

The STEAM Challenge is a partnership with the Hull and East Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership and Quickline Communications.

Interested schools can apply by emailing hannah-wilson@yorkcollege.ac.uk. The application deadline is February 28.
