York: It’s such a heartbreaking situation. A police officer, PC Rosie Prior, was helping out at a crash scene when tragedy struck. She was hit by a lorry while assisting others involved in the accident.
Alongside her, a 41-year-old man named Ryan Welford also lost his life. He was a devoted family man, and his loved ones are understandably devastated.
This all happened on the A19 near Bagby. PC Prior had pulled over to lend a hand after a collision between two cars. Sadly, while she was doing her duty, an HGV came along and struck them.
Both PC Prior and Ryan died right there at the scene. There was also a teenage boy from the Audi who was hurt but is now in stable condition at the hospital.
The driver of the lorry, a 65-year-old from Berwick-upon-Tweed, was arrested but has since been released while investigations continue.
David Skaith, the mayor of York, expressed his deep sorrow over the loss. He said it’s a tragic day for the community and highlighted how dedicated Rosie was, even off duty.
Rosie’s family described her as a loving mum and said she will be missed dearly. Ryan’s family echoed those sentiments, sharing how much he meant to them.
Chief Constable Tim Forber also shared his sadness, emphasizing the impact this has on everyone involved. He urged respect for the families’ privacy as they navigate this tough time.
North Yorkshire Police are asking anyone who might have seen what happened or has dash cam footage to come forward. They really want to piece together the events of that day.
