Parents at Millthorpe School are also discussing changes. They want to shift their schedule from 8:30 AM-3:25 PM to 8:15 AM-2:35 PM starting in September.
York High is part of the Excel Learning Trust, which includes six schools in the area. Principal Gavin Kumar says the goal is to help students learn better and grow personally.
The new schedule would allow for enrichment activities after school. This time would help students stay healthy and enjoy their school experience more.
They also plan to add “movement time” between classes. This will help students transition without rushing. Millthorpe has tried this and students liked it.
York High is asking for feedback from parents and staff. They want everyone to share their thoughts via email or at consultation sessions.
Excel Learning Trust supports these changes. They believe small adjustments can improve student wellbeing and allow for more extracurricular activities.
Parents can fill out an online form or email for feedback. They can also attend sessions on February 6, February 10, or Valentine’s Day to discuss the changes.
