Exeter: So, there’s a yellow alert for fog coming up, and it could really mess with travel plans. The Met Office is saying we might see delays, especially with flights. This warning is set to last until 11 am on Thursday and covers a big chunk of England, from Exeter all the way to Oxford, Birmingham, Peterborough, and York, plus some areas in Wales.
Driving could get tricky too, with slower journey times and possible delays for buses and trains. Remember last Christmas when thick fog caused chaos at some of the busiest airports? Heathrow, Luton, and Manchester were all affected. It looks like we might be in for a repeat.
Earlier this month, we had issues with flights due to snow, ice, and strong winds, which led to runway closures at Manchester, Birmingham, and Bristol airports. Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir mentioned that fog and some frost could be a problem over the next few days, especially where the skies are clearer.
Tonight and into tomorrow, we’ll see stubborn clouds hanging around from the Midlands to the South East, while the north west of Scotland might get some rain. If you’re in Northern Ireland, enjoy the sunshine today because more clouds are on the way.
With those clearer skies, expect some frost as temperatures dip close to freezing. Fog is likely to form again in central and southern England and Wales, so be prepared for a slow start tomorrow morning.
It’s going to be a chilly morning across Wales, Northern England, and southern Scotland, with more clouds rolling in for Northern Ireland and the central belt of Scotland.
