Bournemouth: Extinction Rebellion BCP is raising awareness about UK wildlife. They placed blue plaques in various locations to highlight the issue. These plaques focus on the decline of iconic species.
The plaques feature animals like hedgehogs, natterjack toads, and turtle doves. They also suggest ways to help these species recover. Ideas include restoring woodlands, cleaning waterways, and creating wildlife corridors.
Daniel Glennon, an XR BCP spokesperson, emphasized the crisis facing nature in the UK. He noted that nearly a fifth of wildlife has vanished since 1970. Many beloved species are disappearing quickly.
He mentioned that pollinators are struggling and habitats are shrinking. However, he believes it’s not too late to make a difference. With urgent action, we can restore nature and protect our environment.
The plaques are located in beautiful spots like Stour Valley Nature Reserve and Redhill Common. Greg Lambe, a property manager, shared that there’s still time to change course for wildlife.
He pointed out that species can recover when given a chance. Elizabeth Elwick, a retired council worker, added that everyone can help. Small actions can lead to significant changes.
Liz Brereton, a counselor, concluded that without nature, we have no future. She believes we can achieve green growth without harming the environment.
