An XL bully will be put down after a brutal attack on a dog and its owner in Cheltenham
Cheltenham, UK, XL Bully, Dog Attack, Phillip Ilott
Cheltenham: A shocking incident unfolded when an XL bully attacked a dog and its owner. The owner, Phillip Ilott, is now facing serious consequences.
He’s been ordered to have his dog destroyed and can’t own dogs anymore. Ilott, 32, got a six-month prison sentence, but it’s suspended for a year, so he won’t serve time right now.
On May 7, 2023, the XL bully wasn’t on a lead when it attacked. The victim entered a communal garden, and that’s when things went south. The bully lunged at the victim’s dog, grabbing its neck.
When the owner tried to help, the XL bully bit him on the hand, leaving deep wounds that needed hospital care. The victim’s dog also got hurt and had to see a vet for emergency treatment.
Ilott initially denied the attack, but later he pleaded guilty in court. He was charged with having a dog dangerously out of control. The XL bully was seized and identified as a banned breed, although it wasn’t banned at the time of the attack.
PC Rebekah Tristram from Gloucestershire Police commented on the case, saying Ilott didn’t control his dog, leading to serious injuries for both the man and his pet. She hopes this serves as a warning to all dog owners about the importance of keeping their pets under control.
At the sentencing, the court made it clear: Ilott can’t have dogs anymore, and his XL bully will be humanely destroyed. It’s a tough situation, but safety comes first.
