Washington: The WWT Washington team recently made the holidays brighter for local kids by donating gifts to a charity. This was part of their annual Christmas event, where kids get to join in on some fun elf workshops.
During these workshops, children learn cool skills like wrapping gifts and writing labels. They even earn an official ‘Elf Diploma’ for their efforts! Plus, everyone is asked to bring a new or gently used book to donate.
After wrapping the books, the WWT team makes sure they get to a local charity. Head Elf Joanne Newbury, who also runs the learning programs, shared how amazed they are by the kindness of their visitors.
She said it’s heartwarming to see so many kids getting into the spirit of giving, especially during the festive season. This year, the gifts went to the Rainbow Trust, a charity that helps families with children facing serious illnesses.
Joanne even visited the Rainbow Trust to deliver the donations right before Christmas. Monica Dooley, a family support worker there, expressed their gratitude for WWT Washington’s generosity, saying it helps families create special moments despite tough times.
Joanne added that donating gifts is a great way for WWT Washington to support such an important cause while also being eco-friendly during a season that can be challenging for many.
She’s excited that these gifts will make a real difference and looks forward to continuing their support for the charity in the future.
