Wrexham: The Wrexham Taster Half Day Tour kicked off in November, and it’s a real treat! You get to dive into the culture, history, and of course, some amazing lager, cocktails, and food—all in one afternoon.

Wrexham Lager is the oldest lager brewery in the UK, dating back to 1882. It’s a beloved spot for locals and has become a must-visit for tourists, especially with the buzz around Wrexham AFC.

The tour kicks off on High Street at the Bank Small Plates Restaurant, where you’ll enjoy a Wrexham Lager Tasting Experience. It’s the perfect way to start, blending history, food, and drink. You’ll savor specially crafted dishes made with local ingredients, paired with lagers brewed just a stone’s throw away.

After that, you’ll get a guided tour of St Giles’ Church, the largest medieval parish church in Wales. It’s a chance to soak in centuries of history and admire the stunning architecture.

Next up is a visit to Vault 33, the city’s trendy cocktail bar owned by former Wrexham AFC player Neil Roberts. If you’ve seen the docu-series ‘Welcome to Wrexham,’ you’ll recognize him!

At Vault 33, you can sip on a specialty drink of your choice while Neil himself gives you a tour. You’ll learn about the history of the 110-year-old building and check out the beautiful Wrexham-inspired mural.

The experience wraps up with an exclusive tour of the Wrexham Lager Brewery, guided by one of the master brewers. You’ll discover the traditional brewing methods behind the lagers you tasted earlier.

To finish off the day, you’ll enjoy a classic Wrexham treat—fish and chips from Jones’s Fish and Chip Shop, a family-run gem since 1911.

This week, Marci Bour and James Chaw from Washington DC joined the tour. They fell in love with Wrexham after watching ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ and wanted to explore the city together.

“James is a huge foodie, and we both love history and agriculture, so this tour seemed perfect,” Marci shared.

They’re also catching the Birmingham and Stevenage games during their trip, celebrating their 10-year anniversary and enjoying their first vacation without the kids. It’s Marci’s first time in the UK!

The couple had a blast, especially meeting locals at each stop. “We’ve learned a lot; it’s just what we were hoping for,” Marci said. “The tour is the perfect blend of our interests.”

James added, “A highlight was the church and learning about the history. Meeting the locals was the best part for me.”

They discovered Wrexham through the documentary, and with James being a sports fan and Marci loving history, it made perfect sense to visit.

“The story itself is just great; the town and the people too, outside of the football. There’s so much to offer, and we can’t believe we’re really here,” James said.

The tour runs every other Thursday for up to 12 people, welcoming individuals and small groups to explore Wrexham’s unique heritage together.

It starts at 1:30 PM and goes until about 6:30 PM, with a cost of £95 that covers all food and drink. You can book your spot through Wrexham Lager’s website or social media, or check out their tour page.
