Wrexham: Wrexham AFC has exciting plans for a new Kop Stand. The club submitted these plans to Wrexham Council. The design aims to create a vibrant atmosphere for fans. It will also serve as a landmark for visitors and the local community.

The new stand will hold 5,500 fans. Designed by Populous, it includes safe standing and hospitality options. The stand will be a key feature visible from the city center.

The seating is designed to enhance the home end experience. The roof will amplify crowd noise towards the pitch, creating a lively matchday atmosphere.

The design is future-proof, allowing for potential capacity increases. This will depend on a separate planning application.

Fans will enjoy a unique experience with a player tunnel in the stand. This feature lets supporters welcome the team onto the pitch.

The stand’s brick facade honors Wrexham’s “Terracottapolis” nickname. The colors and textures reflect the local Ruabon red brick.

Two dragons from the club’s crest will be embossed on the facade. This design allows light to pass through, symbolizing the club’s transparency with the community.

The overall look combines the city’s history with a modern identity. It aims to be a unique destination for fans and visitors.

Behind the stand, a public plaza will serve as a fan space on match days. It will also be a community area throughout the year.

The new Kop Stand will meet UEFA Category 4 requirements. This will allow the stadium to host international matches, including the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2026.

Michael Williamson, CEO of Wrexham AFC, highlighted the stand’s importance. It restores the stadium’s traditional four-sided design and enhances facilities for fans.

He emphasized the stand’s connection to Wrexham’s history and its role in the city’s redevelopment.

Declan Sharkey from Populous noted the stand’s unique design. It aims to create an authentic experience for passionate fans.

Councillor Mark Pritchard praised the project as part of the Wrexham Gateway initiative. He believes it will boost local pride and attract visitors.

Professor Joe Yates from Wrexham University expressed excitement about the plans. He sees it as a significant step for North Wales in hosting international sports.
