Warrington: The Jolly Falstaff pub has been sitting empty for years now. It’s been a bit of an eyesore, and the locals are glad something is finally happening.
There’s been a lot of trouble around the old pub, with police often telling kids to steer clear. It’s been a hotspot for all sorts of mischief.
Just last July, there were a couple of incidents nearby that raised alarms again. The community has been waiting for a solution.
Plans to tear it down got the green light back in October. It’s about time, right?
Police have had to move groups of youths away from the boarded-up building, which has seen its fair share of drug use and even arson.
Initially, there were plans to demolish it that got pulled back in November 2023, but they quickly resubmitted them.
Documents mentioned that since the pub has been closed for so long, there’s no interest in reopening it. So, they’re going to knock it down.
The plan is to take it down to the ground floor slab, leaving the slab and foundations in place.
After the demolition, the site will still be empty, and there aren’t any solid plans for what to do with it next.
This week, the demolition crew finally showed up to start the work. It’s a step forward for the area.
At a planning meeting, Warrington Borough Council approved the demolition and plans to tarmac the site. But what happens next is still up in the air.
