Warrington: So, guess what? The Warrington Borough Council just gave the green light for some upgrades at the Great Sankey playing fields. They’re planning to install a new drainage system to help the fields stay usable during winter.
This area, located off Lingley Green Avenue, used to be part of the Great Sankey High School playing field. Now, it’s open for public use, which is pretty cool.
The Great Sankey Parish Council owns the land and has a responsibility to keep it in good shape for everyone to enjoy. They’ve been looking into ways to improve the drainage so that more clubs can use the fields in winter.
Right now, the fields are not in great shape for winter play. They get pretty muddy and are only usable for a few months each year. The soil there is mostly clay, which doesn’t drain well at all.
The plan is to put in some underground drains and a detention basin to manage excess water. This will help keep the fields drier and even create a nice habitat for wildlife.
They’ll be doing some digging and moving around the soil, but it’s all to make the fields better for everyone. The goal is to make sure the playing fields can be enjoyed all year round, not just in the summer.
Overall, this upgrade is set to really enhance the space for the community and provide some great benefits for local residents.
