Worcester: Fernhill House, part of the Berkley Care Group, had a special treat for its residents. Two Humboldt penguins, Widget and Pringle, came for a visit, and everyone was buzzing with excitement.

These penguins are from South America, mainly hanging out along the coasts of Peru and northern Chile. So, it was quite a unique experience for the residents.

The residents were thrilled to get up close and personal with the penguins. Many had never seen one before, let alone held one on their lap!

To keep things safe and comfy for everyone, the handlers gave clear instructions on how to interact with the penguins. It was all about making sure both the residents and the penguins felt at ease.

Everyone stayed seated while taking turns with the penguins. It was heartwarming to see the joy on their faces as Widget and Pringle waddled around the home.

The visit was well-planned, lasting about an hour. The penguins were well-fed and happy, making the experience enjoyable for all.

Widget and Pringle are pros at these community visits, and they definitely made some unforgettable memories for both the residents and the staff.

Lucy Downes, the activities coordinator, shared her happiness about the event. She said it was amazing to see the residents light up with joy and laughter.

She mentioned how the visit helped some of the quieter residents come out of their shells, encouraging them to engage with others. It was a beautiful reminder of how special moments can brighten lives.

Lucy is already brainstorming more exciting opportunities to keep bringing joy to the residents. It sounds like there are more fun times ahead!
