Woolwich: On Tuesday afternoon, a serious stabbing incident shook the community. It happened around 2:30 PM on Woolwich Church Street, close to the A205 South Circular.

The police jumped into action, launching a major investigation while travel in the area took a hit.

Transport for London (TfL) is stepping up to support staff affected by this tragedy. Rosie Trew, who heads up bus services at TfL, shared her condolences, calling the event “horrific.”

They’re working hand in hand with the Metropolitan Police and Stagecoach, sharing CCTV footage to help get to the bottom of what happened.

Sadly, the boy who was attacked suffered serious stab wounds and, despite paramedics’ efforts, he passed away shortly after they arrived.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the police are asking anyone who saw anything to come forward.

The whole situation has caused quite a bit of chaos in Woolwich. Church Street is closed off in both directions, and the Woolwich Ferry Roundabout is also blocked, leading to traffic diversions.

Bus routes 161, 177, 180, and 472 are on detours too. TfL is advising passengers to check their website or app for the latest updates and to plan for extra travel time.

They’ve also reminded everyone about the Sarah Hope Line, a confidential support service for those impacted by traumatic events on the transport network.

Rosie Trew emphasized, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy who has been tragically killed in this horrific incident.”

She added that they’re doing everything they can to assist the police and support their colleagues affected by this sad event.
