Woolwich: The community is shaken after a 14-year-old named Kelyan Bokassa was tragically stabbed on a bus. This happened on January 7, and sadly, no one has been arrested yet.

Just a day before, another stabbing occurred involving an 18-year-old who is now in stable condition. Both incidents happened close to each other but are not linked.

Local shop manager Saqib Mushtaq shared that crime, especially theft, is a common issue in the area. He mentioned that young people often try to steal from his cosmetics shop.

Despite some improvements in the town center, like a £25 million revamp, he feels more police presence is needed to make everyone feel safe.

Residents like Roda Keela, who grew up in Woolwich, have noticed an increase in violence lately. She worries about young people being targeted, especially after dark.

Roda believes that educating kids about the law could help reduce crime. She’s concerned that many young people don’t realize the seriousness of their actions.

James Orpington, another local, expressed sadness over the stabbings but also noted that he generally feels safe. He thinks more activities for youth could help keep them out of trouble.

The council has expressed condolences and is working with police to address the situation. Superintendent Louise Sargent assured the community that patrols would increase in the coming weeks.

She emphasized the importance of community involvement, encouraging residents to speak with officers if they have concerns. The police are also investigating the incidents thoroughly.

Anyone with information is urged to reach out to the police, as every bit of information helps in keeping the community safe.
