Brisbane: A childcare worker named Yolanda Borucki just got some good news. She was found not guilty of charges for accessing confidential records. This all ties back to her reporting one of Australia’s worst pedophiles, Ashley Paul Griffith.
Yolanda, 59, had been facing some serious charges for using a restricted computer service. Griffith, her former colleague, is now serving life in prison for over 1600 child abuse offenses. They worked together at a childcare center back in 2021, and Yolanda was the one who alerted the authorities about his behavior.
The charges against her stemmed from an incident where she allegedly accessed confidential records from home and shared them with a reporter. She had previously spoken out on a TV program about Griffith’s inappropriate actions towards kids.
After the report aired, the charges came down on her. But on Friday, Magistrate Kerrie O’Callaghan cleared her name, saying there wasn’t enough proof that she used a work computer to send those emails.
The magistrate pointed out that there was no evidence showing Yolanda had any restrictions on her computer use. Even if she did send the emails, it wasn’t clear that she did so without permission.
Prosecutors claimed that her actions caused psychological harm to families, but the magistrate wasn’t convinced. She stated that the prosecution didn’t prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt, leading to Yolanda’s acquittal.
When the verdict was announced, her supporters cheered, and Yolanda was visibly emotional. Her lawyer, Ron Behlau, said the charges should never have been filed in the first place. He praised her actions as heroic and mentioned that she’s eager for an inquiry into how Griffith was allowed to work with children for so long.
