Catford, London, Fire, Rescue, Emergency
Catford: A woman had quite the scare when she found herself on the roof of her burning home. The fire broke out early this morning, and it was a real emergency.
The London Fire Brigade got the call around 7:31 AM. They quickly sent about 60 firefighters in eight fire engines from nearby stations to tackle the blaze.
Sadly, the first floor and loft of the house were completely destroyed. But thankfully, firefighters managed to rescue the woman from the roof using a nine-meter ladder.
Before the firefighters arrived, two other people had already made it out of the house. But the woman was in a tough spot, slipping on the roof tiles.
Station commander Mike Watts shared that a firefighter on a ladder helped keep her from falling. They set up another ladder to safely bring both the firefighter and the woman down.
She was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and the other two people were also hospitalized, with one suffering serious injuries.
Firefighters stayed on the scene to put out any remaining flames and investigate what caused the fire. They advised folks to steer clear of the area while they worked.
Over 20 calls came into the brigade’s control center about the fire, which was under control by 9:39 AM. A road closure was set up on Ravensbourne Park, but rail services at Catford Station were not affected.
As of now, the cause of the fire is still being looked into.
