Woman Charged with Lying About Child’s Paternity Appears in Court
A 26-year-old woman faces court for allegedly lying about her child’s father to gain financially
Great Sankey, UK, Beth Fernley, Liverpool Crown Court, Paternity Fraud
Great Sankey: So, there’s this 26-year-old woman, Beth Fernley, who’s in a bit of hot water. She’s accused of telling a guy he was the father of her child when he really wasn’t.
Apparently, she did this to get some cash out of him, which is a pretty big deal. The whole thing is being treated as fraud, and it’s said she caused the guy some financial trouble.
The charges say this all went down between March 2019 and May 2021. When she showed up in court, she didn’t say anything about the charges. Her lawyer, Tom Worsfold, mentioned that they might try to get the case thrown out because it’s a bit unusual.
He asked the Crown to take another look at the case, especially considering the public interest. The judge, Andrew Menary, set a date for that hearing on March 18 and also penciled in a trial for October 29.
Fernley had some friends in the courtroom supporting her and was let go on bail without any conditions. It’s definitely a situation to keep an eye on!
