Brandon: A winter storm swept through the eastern Prairies on Sunday, bringing a ton of snow and icy conditions. It really packed a punch!

Heavy snowfall was the main issue, with winds gusting up to 70 km/h. As the storm moves into northwestern Ontario, cities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba are buried under snow.

On Monday morning, parts of the Trans-Canada Highway in Saskatchewan had to close due to multiple accidents. It was a mess out there!

Bredenbury, Sask., got nearly 25 cm of snow, while Winnipeg saw about 20 cm. Nearby communities weren’t far behind, either. Cleanup is definitely underway.

Many schools in southern Manitoba decided to close for the day as they deal with the aftermath of the storm. It’s a real winter wonderland, but not the fun kind!

On top of all that snow, a blast of Arctic air is hanging over the Prairies, making temperatures drop well below freezing. Brrr!

But there’s a silver lining: much of that freezing air is expected to move into Ontario and the rest of Eastern Canada by the end of the week. Fingers crossed for warmer days ahead!

People have been sharing their snowy experiences on social media, and it’s clear that driving conditions are pretty rough. One user mentioned seeing cars in the ditch due to black ice. Yikes!

Brandon Police even issued a travel advisory, warning folks to avoid certain streets because of impassable snow drifts. They’re working hard to clear the roads, but it’s a tough job!
