Saskatchewan: This week, some areas in the eastern Prairies hit their coldest temperatures of 2024. But don’t worry, things are about to warm up a bit. Starting Sunday, we can expect freezing rain in parts of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, moving into northwestern Ontario by Monday.

Now, freezing rain can make roads super slippery, especially with a fresh layer of snow on top. So, if you’re heading out this weekend, just be careful!

A low-pressure system from the northern U.S. is bringing moisture our way. It’ll start as freezing rain on Sunday, but as temperatures drop in the evening, it’ll switch over to snow.

In southeastern Saskatchewan, freezing rain will kick off Sunday morning, affecting places like Regina and Weyburn. Areas east of Regina could see 5-8 hours of this icy stuff.

Even though we’re only expecting a couple of millimeters of freezing rain, it’s enough to make things pretty treacherous for driving and walking.

By Sunday afternoon, snow will start to fall in eastern Saskatchewan and then spread into southern Manitoba by night. Winnipeg could see about 5-10 cm of snow.

On Monday, southern Manitoba will continue to get snow, and northwestern Ontario will also feel the effects, with around 5 cm expected in places like Kenora and Dryden.

Manitoba might also experience wind gusts up to 60 km/h, which could make visibility pretty poor along with the snow.

Looking ahead, temperatures will drop again across the eastern Prairies and northwestern Ontario, with a chance of more snow throughout the week.
