Wilton: Chris White Funeral Directors just opened a special ‘Letters to Heaven’ post box. They had a lovely celebration on January 15, and it was quite the event.
Local vicars, councillors, and even the Mayor and Mayoress showed up. There was a great spread of food, and everyone was excited about the new post box.
Sophie Nias-Cooper, a Funeral Arranger there, explained that these post boxes are popping up in various places. They’re meant to help people cope with grief by allowing them to write messages to their loved ones.
It’s a simple idea: you write a note and send it off to someone who has passed away. You can do this on special days or whenever you feel like it.
And don’t worry, no one will read these letters. They’ll be securely disposed of when the time comes. It’s all about finding peace and closure.
During the opening, a poem was read, and the Mayor, Cllr Alan Crossley, cut the ribbon. He was the first to drop a letter in and said it was a wonderful idea.
He hopes the post box gets filled with letters, and when it’s full, the letters will be composted without ever being opened. It’s a beautiful way to remember those we’ve lost.
