Andheri: The BMC is trying to wrap up the Gokhale Bridge work by April. They need to finish the last pier on both sides by mid-February to stay on track. An official mentioned that they’ve already lowered the girder over the railway part, but the final touches on the approach roads are still pending.

The pressure is on, though. If they don’t get those piers set up soon, hitting the deadline will be tough. Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar said they’re keeping a close eye on everything. They really want to finish on time.

There have been a lot of missed deadlines already. The bridge was closed back in November 2022 because it was falling apart, and they promised to have it done by May 2023. After a lot of pushing from locals, they finally started on two lanes in February 2024, but only light vehicles can use it for now.

Dhaval Shah from the local citizens’ group is hopeful but skeptical. He thinks they might not make the April deadline due to the delays. He’s predicting a May opening instead. Fingers crossed they can pull it off!
