Los Angeles: The wildfires are really causing a stir in the city. Just recently, evacuation orders were expanded to include the Getty Center, which is a big deal since it houses some amazing art.
Brentwood, the neighborhood where the Getty Center is located, is now under evacuation orders. This comes right after the Getty Villa had its own close call with the flames. Both museums are closed for now, at least until mid-January.
As of Saturday morning, the Getty Center is following the evacuation order and only emergency staff are on site. They’re taking precautions seriously, and it’s good to know they’re being careful.
So, what’s the Getty Center all about? It opened back in 1997 and is part of the Getty Trust. It’s not just a museum; it also has a library and beautiful gardens. You can find a lot of European art there, including Van Gogh’s famous “Irises.”
Now, you might wonder if the Getty Center is safe from fires. Well, it was designed with that in mind. They’ve got fire-resistant materials and a solid plan to protect the art. Back in 2019, when a fire broke out nearby, they didn’t even have to evacuate the artworks.
Outside, they’ve planted drought-resistant plants and set up an irrigation system to help keep things safe. It’s all about being prepared.
As for the Getty Villa, it’s also been in the line of fire, but so far, the staff and artworks are safe. They’ve been working hard to clear brush around the area to protect the collection.
It’s a tough situation for everyone involved, and the folks at the Getty are definitely keeping an eye on things. They’re concerned for their neighbors and doing what they can to stay safe.
