Perth: The wife of a man who tragically died in a recycling centre explosion is still searching for answers. Magda Szmeichel lost her husband, Slawomir, back in February 2023.

She’s been feeling pretty frustrated since another fire broke out at the same site recently. This latest incident even shut down the Friarton Bridge for ten hours!

It’s alarming that this was the fourth fire at the recycling centre in just four years. Magda is calling for a thorough safety review to prevent more tragedies.

Right now, the investigation by the Crown Office and the Health and Safety Executive is still ongoing. Magda shared her feelings with BBC Scotland News, saying she feels left in the dark about what’s happening.

She’s really worried about safety at the site. Every day is a struggle for her, and hearing about the latest fire brought back all those painful memories from two years ago.

Magda said, “I just couldn’t believe something similar was happening again.” She doesn’t want any other family to go through what she has experienced.

She believes it’s unacceptable for such incidents to keep happening. Fire crews worked hard to tackle the blaze for ten hours, but it’s clear that more needs to be done.

At the time of the explosion, the site was managed by Shore Recycling, which was later sold to Enva. Enva mentioned that the recent fire might have been caused by a waste battery.

The Crown Office is still looking into the case, and they’ve promised to keep the family updated on any significant developments.
