Purdy Reflects on Feeling He ‘Failed the Team’ in 49ers Loss
Brock Purdy takes responsibility for the 49ers’ disappointing loss to the Rams, expressing regret over missed opportunities on the field
Brock Purdy, 49ers, Rams, NFL, Santa Clara, California
Santa Clara: So, Brock Purdy really feels like he let his team down after the 49ers lost to the Rams. He said he had a lot of plays he could’ve made to help the team win. It was a tough game, and the 49ers just couldn’t get it going offensively.
Even though the defense played well, keeping the Rams from scoring touchdowns, the 49ers’ offense just fell flat. Purdy completed only 14 of 31 passes for 142 yards, and he threw a crucial interception in the fourth quarter. Ouch!
After the game, Purdy was pretty hard on himself. He mentioned how he felt he could’ve done better and that he felt like he failed the team. He really wanted to contribute more, especially since the defense and special teams were doing their jobs.
He also talked about a missed opportunity with Deebo Samuel, who dropped a pass that could have been a touchdown. Samuel felt the same way, saying if he had caught it, they might have won. It’s tough when those little moments can change the whole game.
Coach Kyle Shanahan backed Purdy’s decision to go for a deep shot, but it didn’t pan out. Purdy admitted he should’ve played it safer, especially since they were close to field-goal range. He’s taking this as a learning experience, which is good to see.
With this loss, the 49ers are out of playoff contention for the first time since 2020. Purdy is determined to finish the season strong and learn from these tough moments. He knows being a quarterback comes with a lot of responsibility, and he’s ready to step up.
