New England: The Patriots have some big holes to fill this spring. Sure, the wide receiver and offensive tackle spots are getting a lot of attention, but the defense needs some love too.

Last season, the Pats struggled, finishing with the fewest sacks in the league. They also tied for the fourth-fewest interceptions. While they need to look for new talent on the edge and in the secondary, new head coach Mike Vrabel is focused on maximizing the potential of the players already on the team.

On a recent episode of Tom E. Curran’s Patriots Talk Podcast, Phil Perry highlighted the importance of young edge rusher Keion White, who was picked in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He’s a key player in the team’s plans moving forward.

Perry mentioned that affecting the quarterback is crucial, which means improving the pass rush. He emphasized the need to get Christian Barmore back on the field and to really tap into what Keion White can bring to the table. The team needs to ensure they have enough talent upfront to win those one-on-one matchups without having to blitz all the time.

Curran also speculated on how White will fit with a tough coach like Vrabel. He thinks their relationship could either be fantastic or a total mismatch. White is known for being smart and introspective, which might make for an interesting dynamic.

Despite limited playing time as a rookie, White showed he has potential. He managed to rack up five sacks and 16 quarterback hits over the season, appearing in all 17 games. The hope is that with the right guidance, he can really shine.
