London: This season’s north London derbies are looking a bit different. Thanks to a decision from the Premier League and the referees, things have changed.
In the past, both Arsenal and Tottenham would wear their classic kits, but not anymore. For the first time, Arsenal had to wear their away kit when they played at Spurs earlier this season.
Now, Spurs are following suit and will wear their away kit for tonight’s match at Arsenal. It’s a bit of a shake-up for the rivalry.
The reason? Arsenal’s red home kit was deemed to clash with Spurs’ white kit. The Premier League and the PGMOL decided that the white on Arsenal’s kit made it tough for referees to do their job.
Arsenal knew this could happen when they designed their kit. They opted not to wear red and instead played in their black away kit, winning 1-0.
As part of this new ruling, Tottenham agreed to wear their away kit at the Emirates Stadium tonight. It’s all about keeping things clear for the refs!
