Janesville: So, Governor Tony Evers has ordered flags to fly at half-staff this Saturday. It’s a tribute to former State Senator Tim Cullen, who passed away on December 23 at 80.
In a statement, Evers praised Cullen as a dedicated public servant. He really put his heart into making Wisconsin a better place.
Cullen represented the Janesville area for 16 years. He was a big deal in the Senate, even serving as the Democratic majority leader. Plus, he worked under former Governor Tommy Thompson.
Evers mentioned how Cullen always stood up for working families and supported kids in Janesville. He was also a strong advocate for fair voting practices.
Services for Cullen are set for Saturday, January 4, in Janesville, as noted in a press release.
On that day, both the American flag and the Wisconsin state flag will be at half-staff from sunrise to sunset, as per Evers’ order.
Interestingly, the flags will also be at half-staff in memory of former President Jimmy Carter until January 28.
These flags will be lowered at all state buildings and military sites in Wisconsin, following Evers’ directive.
Flags typically fly at half-staff to honor those who have passed, especially public officials or military members. It’s a sign of respect during national tragedies or memorial days.
