Whitner Urges 49ers to Release Campbell for Not Playing
Whitner and Brooks criticize Campbell for refusing to play, suggesting his time with the 49ers may be over after a disappointing loss

San Francisco: So, after the 49ers lost to the Rams, things got pretty heated. Analysts Donte Whitner and Rod Brooks were not holding back on linebacker De’Vondre Campbell. He decided not to play, and they were furious.
Whitner straight-up said, “Cut him.” He felt that Campbell’s refusal to play was unacceptable, especially since he was going to be a backup after an injury return. He thought it was a bad move to tell the coaches he didn’t want to play.
Brooks chimed in too, calling it a “sucker move.” He was really disappointed, saying Campbell quit on his team, which is a big no-no in sports. It’s like the worst thing you can do.
Campbell had played in all the games this season, but he sat out this one because Dre Greenlaw was back from injury. After the game, coach Shanahan confirmed that Campbell just didn’t want to play that day.
With the team’s playoff hopes on the line, it’s unclear what the 49ers will do next. But Campbell’s future with the team seems pretty shaky right now.
