Fife: Martin Whitehead is looking to get the green light from Fife Council for his dog daycare business. He applied back in August to change the use of a unit at M90 Commerce Park in Lathalmond.
Even though a decision is still pending, his business is already up and running. He’s been proactive, providing extra info to tackle concerns about traffic, noise, and the possibility of dogs escaping.
In his application, he pointed out that the unit is at the end of a tarmacked driveway with no through road. So, any traffic will be just for his daycare.
He assured that there won’t be any changes to the building’s exterior. Plus, he believes his business won’t negatively affect nearby companies, including a dog training facility in the same park.
Initially, there were worries about increased traffic during busy hours. But he clarified that most clients use their drop-off and pick-up service, meaning only the company van will be on the road.
Occasionally, there might be a couple of extra cars, but only during business hours and never on weekends, so it shouldn’t bother anyone else in the area.
On the noise front, he mentioned that all dogs will be kept inside, which should help keep things quiet. They also have strategies to manage barking, like training and separating dogs based on their size and temperament.
Since the daycare’s hours don’t overlap with the nearby gym’s, he doesn’t expect any noise complaints. The commerce park is pretty remote, so it’s unlikely anyone will be disturbed.
Mr. Whitehead also emphasized that dogs will always be on a lead when moving between vehicles and the facility. They’ve got a double door system in place to prevent any escapes.
In the rare case a dog does get loose, they have a solid plan that all staff are trained on, ensuring everyone knows what to do.
