Patriots Coaches Facing Pressure as 2024 Season Wraps Up
As the Patriots struggle, questions arise about the future of key coaches

Foxboro: The New England Patriots are having a rough time this season, sitting at the bottom of the NFL with a 3-13 record. They just got crushed by the Los Angeles Chargers, losing 40-7. It was a tough game where they struggled in every area.
Now, there’s a lot of chatter about the coaching staff. Head coach Jerod Mayo seems safe for another year, but what about offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt and defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington? Are they in trouble?
Phil Perry from NBC Sports Boston mentioned that Van Pelt might not be around much longer. Even though he’s done a decent job developing rookie quarterback Drake Maye, the rest of the offense hasn’t performed well. The team ranks near the bottom in both yards and points scored.
As for Covington, he’s Mayo’s guy, so it’s a bit trickier. If Mayo stays, it’s hard to see them letting Covington go unless they find someone with experience under Bill Belichick. The defense has really struggled this year, too, with injuries and trades taking a toll.
Looking ahead, the Patriots need to shake things up. They’ve got to upgrade key positions like wide receiver and left tackle. But they also need to think about the coaching staff. It’s crucial to get the best out of their young players, and right now, that’s not happening.
