San Francisco: The 49ers are facing some big decisions this offseason. After an early exit, fans are vocal about what they want to see change. A recent poll showed that a whopping 71% of fans think the offensive line needs serious upgrades.
Before their recent loss to the Lions, fans were asked about the team’s biggest need. While some thought wide receiver or defensive lineman were important, the majority clearly want better protection for quarterback Brock Purdy.
It makes sense, especially since the team’s star left tackle, Trent Williams, has had injury issues. He only played 10 games last season. Beyond him, the depth on the O-line is pretty shaky, and they’ve had their fair share of struggles.
Injuries hit hard at the end of the season, forcing the 49ers to field a makeshift line. They had a guy who was on another team’s practice squad just a week before starting. Coach Kyle Shanahan was impressed with how they handled the pressure, especially on a big stage like Monday Night Football.
Looking ahead, the 49ers have options to improve their offensive line. They’re set to pick No. 11 in the upcoming draft, which gives them a chance to snag some talent. Plus, the backups showed they can step up, which might help the team save some cash while adding depth.
Better protection is key not just for Purdy but also for star running back Christian McCaffrey, who’s hoping for a big comeback next season. The fans have made their voices heard, and now it’s up to the front office to take action.
