Aberdeen: So, the Scottish Government just dropped some new info about where the most XL Bully licenses are popping up. As of last November, they’ve issued over 3,400 exemption certificates across the country. That’s a lot of dogs!

Back in 2024, they put some rules in place for owning these dogs after some serious concerns about attacks. Now, if you own an XL Bully, you’ve got to register them, keep them muzzled, and on a lead when you’re out and about.

Plus, there’s a whole list of things you need to do: microchip your dog, get them neutered, have third-party insurance, and pay a fee of £92.40. It’s a bit of a hassle, but they’re serious about safety.

If you don’t follow the rules, you could be looking at six months in jail or a hefty fine of up to £5,000. Yikes! And if you decide you can’t keep your dog, there’s a £100 payout to help with the cost of euthanizing them, plus another £100 for the loss.

Most of the licenses have gone to folks in Aberdeen’s AB16 area, with 74 certificates issued there. Motherwell is also on the list, coming in second with 65. Interestingly, 178 postcodes had fewer than ten certificates issued. It’s a mixed bag out there!
