Othery: So, here’s the scoop. The A361 is going to be closed for two weeks starting January 22. It’s all about getting some much-needed repairs done.
Motorists will have to take a detour of up to 21 miles. That’s a bit of a trek, right? The road connects Taunton to the A39, which leads to Street and Glastonbury.
Somerset Council is teaming up with Heidelberg to handle the work. They’ll be closing parts of Fore Street and High Street for 13 nights, wrapping up by February 8.
During the closures, drivers will be rerouted through Bridgwater town center and along the M5. It’s not ideal, but they’re trying to keep things moving.
The work will happen on weekdays from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM. Residents will still have access, so that’s a plus.
Councillor Richard Wilkins mentioned that this is a crucial project. They’re aiming to give the road a fresh surface since it’s a busy route.
He also noted that while there will be some disruption, they’re doing the work outside peak hours to minimize the hassle.
For those traveling from west to east, you’ll need to head back along the A361 to Monkton Heathfield, then take the A38 towards Bridgwater. It’s a bit of a roundabout way, but it’s necessary.
And if you’re coming from the east, you’ll follow the same route in reverse. Just plan ahead!
There’s more roadwork coming up in Othery too, including repairs to the A372 New Road. So, keep an eye out for updates.
