Whatcom County: The Sheriff’s Office just announced some exciting news! They’ve received a $125,000 grant from the Washington State Attorney General’s Office to kick off a gun buy-back program. This is a big deal for the community.
What’s even cooler is that Whatcom County is one of just 12 law enforcement agencies in the state to get this funding. The goal? To promote firearm safety and tackle gun violence head-on.
According to the sheriff’s office, the money will help them buy gift cards that they’ll hand out in exchange for firearms. It’s a smart way to encourage people to turn in their guns.
Sheriff Donnell “Tank” Tanskley shared his personal connection to this issue, saying he’s lost family members to gun violence. He really wants to make a difference in the community.
Keep an eye out for more details on how you can get involved in this initiative when spring rolls around!
