Sunderland: I took a quick detour to check out the new Sheepfolds development. It’s just a short walk from the Stadium of Light, perfect for match days.

The courtyard has a trendy yet traditional vibe. It feels like a rustic farmyard, but it’s fresh and not too crowded. It’s different from other business courtyards I’ve seen.

Propa is just around the corner. Its black gates have a seal-like logo, which feels like a seal of approval. And trust me, it’s well-deserved—more on the food soon!

Owned by Si King from the Hairy Bikers, Propa is a love letter to the North East. They focus on locally sourced food, all from within a 50-mile radius.

Si King is hands-on. I saw him in the kitchen after I ordered. He’s friendly and takes time to chat or pose for photos.

The menu changes often, highlighting North East dishes. Recently, they had panackelty and short rib broth, but the pies are the real stars.

I tried the minted lamb and potato pie. It came on creamy mash and was drenched in thick gravy.

The gravy was perfect—not too thick, just comforting. It complemented the pie, making it a hearty meal any mom would be proud to serve.

And guess what? This delicious meal cost only £12. It’s a great deal for a night out!

After my meal, I chatted with Si King. He shared that he adapted family recipes for the menu, including his mom’s rib broth recipe passed down through generations.

Food can bring back memories, and these pies truly reflect what it means to be from the North East. Forget Si King; he should be called Pie King!

Let’s not talk about the football match that followed this meal. You can read about it elsewhere.
