Wellsville: Exciting news for the folks in Allegany and Livingston County! The East Historic District in Wellsville and the Historic District in Nunda have been nominated for the State and National Registers of Historic Places. This is a big deal!

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation shared this announcement, and it could mean a lot for these communities. Being on the registers can open doors to more grant funding, which is crucial for preserving and developing these historic areas.

Once these districts are officially listed, property owners can tap into various public preservation programs. This includes matching state grants and federal tax credits for historic rehabilitation. It’s a fantastic opportunity to revitalize these historic gems!

New York has a solid historic tax credit program. From 2018 to 2022, it saw nearly $4 billion in rehabilitation costs. Since 2009, this program has sparked over $13 billion in project spending, creating jobs and boosting local economies.

Randy Simons, the Commissioner Pro Tempore, emphasized that once these areas are on the registers, they can access programs and incentives that encourage investment. It’s all about guiding their future and keeping the history alive.

The nominations came from local property owners, municipalities, and organizations, showing a strong community effort to preserve their heritage. It’s a great step forward for Wellsville and Nunda!
