Birmingham: After the Waitrose supermarket in Hall Green closed its doors, folks in the area are buzzing about what should take its place. It seems like everyone has the same idea.
The store on Stratford Road shut down on January 13, ending a 50-year run. Just a week before, they started taking down signs and closing down sections like the meat and fish counter.
For many, it felt like a sad farewell to a place filled with memories. BirminghamLive decided to ask shoppers what they’d like to see replace the supermarket.
Liam Dodd suggested, “A Marks & Spencer food hall would be perfect here. They always have great food.”
Noel Dunne agreed, saying, “There’s one in Moseley, but having one here would be fantastic. We need something accessible for the community.”
Colin Coley chimed in, “An M&S food hall would be great; I shop there sometimes.”
Anna Dodd added, “The only other option would be to build houses, but I’m not a fan of that idea.”
Now, the closest Waitrose is in Solihull, while the nearest M&S Food Hall is in Moseley. It looks like the community is hoping for something special to fill that empty space.
