London: Parliament is buzzing with chatter after it was revealed that some Russian diplomats managed to sneak into a restricted area. This happened during a public tour just before Christmas.
They broke away from the group and wandered into the House of Lords, only to be caught by security. It’s got officials pretty worried, and they’re reminding everyone about the security rules for high-ranking Russians.
Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle and Lords Speaker Lord McFall of Alcluith made it clear that the Russian ambassador and other diplomats shouldn’t be allowed on the parliamentary estate for now.
Even though this breach is concerning, a source mentioned that the diplomats probably just wanted to show off to the Kremlin about their little adventure.
“They likely wanted to brag about infiltrating British parliament,” the source said. “It’s not great, but thankfully, they were caught before anything serious happened.”
A spokesperson for Parliament emphasized that keeping everyone safe is their top priority, but they can’t share details about their security measures.
