Westcliff: The Craftsman Pub is in a bit of a pickle. They’ve been told to swap out their uPVC windows because they don’t fit in with the neighborhood vibe. So, they’re appealing to the Government’s planning inspectorate.
The owners, M and A Knightsbridge Properties, are feeling the heat. They say replacing those windows could cost them a whopping £40,000, which is a real blow to their finances.
Now, they’re hoping the planning inspectorate will see things their way. They’re looking for a fair outcome, which might mean just wrapping the windows in vinyl for about £3,000 instead of tearing them out.
Director Matthew Dickens mentioned that if they go the vinyl route, they can keep the windows and save a ton of cash. He’s really hoping the inspectorate will be fair and look at the facts.
Interestingly, Southend Council had actually given them a £17,000 grant back in 2022 to help modernize the pub. They even praised the new look when the work was done!
Matthew’s feeling a bit anxious about the whole situation. He thinks it could take up to six months for the inspectorate to make a decision. Meanwhile, Councillor Anne Jones said they can’t comment on specific cases, which doesn’t help much.
