West Scotland Air Cadets Celebrate 84 Years of Service and Achievement

Over 140 cadets and volunteers gathered in Hamilton to celebrate 84 years of the Air Cadets with a special church service and awards.

Hamilton: More than 140 cadets and 44 volunteers gathered for a special church service. This event took place at Hamilton Old Parish Church on February 2.

The day kicked off at 10am. Cadets assembled and passed inspection. They marched from Lamb Street into the church for the service.

The banner parties proudly displayed the Wing Banner and the King’s Colour. They marched down the aisle to the altar.

Cadets participated in the service. Cadet Warrant Officer Eva McLachlan, 10, and Cadet Xephyra Moos, 16, conducted readings.

Corporal Maya Cochrane, 14, was the banner bearer. She expressed pride in representing Hamilton squadron at the parade.

Maya shared that joining cadets was a great decision. She gained confidence and leadership skills, along with everyday life skills.

During the service, 31 RAF Cadet Force Adult Volunteers received the King Charles III Coronation Medal. Presentations were made by Deputy Lord Lieutenant Louis Munn and Provost Margaret Cooper.

These medals honor volunteers who help young people in West Scotland develop valuable skills. Volunteers come from various backgrounds and are essential to the organization.

They receive full training and can specialize in areas like aviation, first aid, and adventure training.

Wing Commander Jim Haley expressed pride in the organization’s 84-year history. He praised the remarkable young people and their volunteer leaders.
