West London: A tandoori restaurant just near Heathrow Airport is in hot water. Harlington Tandoori and its manager, Joshua Money, have been fined over £22,000.
This all started when a customer spotted a cockroach on their table last September. Inspectors then found hundreds of these critters crawling around the restaurant, including the kitchen and bar.
It gets worse. The place had dirty cooking gear and unlabelled food too. Money agreed to shut down the restaurant, but when it reopened, more hygiene issues popped up.
Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time. The restaurant had a previous run-in with the law for a rat and cockroach infestation back in 2018. They were fined nearly £5,000 then.
In court, Money was fined £512 and had to cover a victim surcharge and prosecution costs. That added up to over £2,600. The restaurant itself faced a much bigger fine of £16,000.
Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member, Cllr Eddie Lavery, expressed his shock. He said this case shows how some businesses ignore basic cleanliness standards, risking public health.
He hopes this serves as a warning to others. Neglecting food hygiene won’t be tolerated, and there are consequences for such actions.
