Ballydehob: A dad of two, Mark Moriyama, had a terrible accident outside his home. He was crushed by his own car while shutting the boot. It rolled back and pinned him against a concrete wall.

Mark was airlifted to Cork University Hospital. Doctors found both his lungs had collapsed, and he was put into an induced coma. Thankfully, he woke up recently and was able to squeeze his wife Aoife’s hand.

The community has really stepped up to help Mark and his family. They’ve raised nearly €20,000 in just a few days to help with their expenses while he recovers. Mark is a self-employed wedding videographer, so this support is crucial.

His best friend, Isaac, shared how amazing Mark is as a husband and father. He described him as active and fit, always playful with his kids, Elayna and Luca. Isaac said Mark’s positive spirit will help him through this tough time.

Mark’s accident was serious, but he’s on the mend. The doctors say he has a long recovery ahead, possibly over 10 months. Meanwhile, Aoife is by his side in the hospital, while their kids are being looked after.

Isaac is hoping to set up a GoFundMe page to ease the financial burden on the family. It’s a single-income household, and with Mark unable to work, the stress is mounting. The community’s support is a real lifeline for them.
