Newport: Wow, did you hear about Rynard Landman? The former Dragons player just got hit with a three-year ban for failing a drugs test. It’s a real shocker!

UK Anti-Doping dropped the news, saying he tested positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid. Landman, who’s been living in Wales for over ten years, admitted to using it.

At 38, he’s had quite the career, racking up 115 appearances for the Dragons since 2014. Before that, he played for a few South African teams. Fans loved him at Rodney Parade.

He was playing for Newport RFC last season after a stint in France. The test happened during a training session last August. He thought the substance would be out of his system by the time he returned to the game.

But UKAD wasn’t buying it. They got an expert opinion that said it was unlikely he’d pass a test after using nandrolone just a few months earlier. So, they slapped him with a four-year ban, but he got a year off for admitting the charge.

The ban kicked in on October 4, 2024, and he won’t be eligible to play again until October 3, 2027. It’s a tough break for him and a big blow for Welsh rugby fans.
