Newport: So, it turns out Newport has been named the worst staycation spot in the UK. Can you believe it? A recent study by Go.Compare put it at the bottom of the list, and it’s not alone. Cardiff and Swansea didn’t fare much better, either.

The research looked at 55 places across the UK, focusing on family-friendly hotels, attractions, and how affordable they are during school breaks. Newport only has 72 family-friendly hotels and just 20 attractions for kids. That’s pretty low, right?

Cardiff and Swansea came in second and third worst, mainly because families face a whopping 47% price hike for accommodation during school holidays. That’s the highest increase in the whole UK! Ouch!

But hey, don’t let that get you down. Newport still has some cool stuff to offer. There’s the Newport Market with loads of tasty food options, the Riverside Theatre for some entertainment, and even a football ground for sports fans.

Jessica Morden, the MP for Newport East, is all about promoting her city. She says Newport is a fantastic place for a staycation, highlighting the Wetlands, Celtic Manor, and the iconic Transporter Bridge. Plus, there’s a new visitor center opening soon!

She also mentioned the vibrant music scene, lovely parks, and great dining experiences. There’s just so much to see and do! So, take that, Go.Compare!
