Newport: So, it turns out Newport has been labeled the worst place for a staycation in the UK. A recent study by Go.Compare looked at various cities, and Newport didn’t come out looking too good.

They checked out 55 spots, focusing on family-friendly places, attractions, and how affordable they are during school holidays. Sadly, Newport only has 72 family-friendly hotels and just 20 attractions for kids. Not great, right?

Cardiff and Swansea didn’t fare much better, landing in second and third place. Families are facing a whopping 47% increase in accommodation prices during school holidays compared to term time. That’s the highest jump in the UK!

But hey, Newport still has some cool stuff to offer. You can check out Newport Market for some tasty food, or catch a show at the Riverside Theatre. And if you’re into sports, the Newport County football ground is a fun spot.

Jessica Morden, the MP for Newport East, is all about promoting her city. She says Newport is a fantastic staycation spot with places like the Wetlands for nature lovers, the fancy Celtic Manor, and the historic Transporter Bridge. Plus, there’s a new visitor center opening soon!

She also highlights the vibrant music scene, lovely parks, and great dining options in the city center. There’s even a new leisure center with a fun pool on the way. Sounds like there’s plenty to do after all!
