Raleigh: North Carolina’s Governor Josh Stein recently took the stage for his inaugural address. He made it clear that he’s committed to helping the state recover from Hurricane Helene. He promised to support the western part of the state for as long as it takes.
Stein called for teamwork with the Republican-led legislature. He believes that overcoming the challenges from the storm and everyday struggles is a shared responsibility. He’s optimistic about what they can achieve together.
Meanwhile, the state is facing some tough news regarding health care costs. The new state treasurer, Brad Briner, revealed that the State Health Plan is in a $507 million hole. This could mean higher premiums for teachers and state employees.
Briner pointed out that even with a big budget boost from the General Assembly, the plan still needs more help. He stressed the importance of finding a long-term solution to rising health care costs.
As the legislature gets back to work, they’ll be focusing on disaster relief and the budget. It looks like there’s a lot on their plate, especially with the ongoing recovery efforts from the hurricane.
