Willington: A Weardale Travel bus had its window smashed recently. This happened on the 108/109 service, which runs through Willington, County Durham. The damage is estimated at about £500. The bus service had to stop for the night.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon near Parkside Academy. A police investigation is currently underway. Thankfully, the driver was not hurt, but he was covered in glass.
Stu Gray, the Bus Service Manager, mentioned that the driver was shaken but returned to work on Monday. He noted that if this happens again, they may need to reroute the service for safety.
Gray expressed concern about the impact of such incidents on their small company. He emphasized that damage to the bus inconveniences many passengers waiting for rides.
Durham Police confirmed they are investigating the incident. They believe someone threw an object at the bus, causing the window to break. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
