London: Gail’s is causing quite a stir with its plans to open a bakery in Stoke Newington. This area is known for its charming independent shops, and not everyone is thrilled about a chain moving in.

The buzz started back in December when some folks on Twitter noticed renovations happening at an empty restaurant. Then, job ads popped up in the window, confirming the rumors.

Last summer, there was a big push to stop Gail’s from opening in Walthamstow, with 1,800 people signing a petition. Many locals worried it would hurt the small coffee shops nearby.

Now, the same concerns are bubbling up in Stoke Newington. Some residents are saying, “Chains aren’t welcome here!” But others think it could be a nice addition to the high street.

One local, Innie, shared her mixed feelings. She’s not a fan of chains but thinks Gail’s isn’t the worst. She loves a nearby bakery and hopes to keep supporting them.

Innie mentioned that there are already too many coffee shops in the area. She loves the community vibe of Stoke Newington and fears that chains could ruin it.

Gail’s founder, Tom Molnar, has big plans for the future, aiming to open 30 to 40 more bakeries across the UK by 2025. He’s taking advantage of the many empty shops available.

The spot where Gail’s is opening used to be an Indian restaurant that closed earlier this year. Now, nearby businesses are feeling the pressure.

Camia Deli, right across the street, has been around for almost 16 years. Leyla, one of the owners, is worried about the competition but knows they have loyal customers.

Despite the concerns, some locals believe that the area needs more variety. One anonymous resident thinks that if a business is good, it shouldn’t worry about Gail’s coming in.

Jay from Perky Blinders, a café nearby, thinks the new bakery could actually help them. He’s not worried about losing customers since they already have a solid base.

Gail’s hasn’t announced an opening date yet, but they did respond to the concerns. They believe a diverse high street is a healthy one and that their presence can improve the area.
